My students took their district exams today. Good side: I only have to give two make up exams and finish grading the papers I already have...(and hold students hostage for another week with nothing to teach) Bad side: The scores are abysmal. This is not an overexaggeration. The highest score is a 77. There are approximately 5 scores above 70. There are a lot of scores that begin with a 3 or 4. I'm waiting to find out how other schools' scores look. Regardless, this is not a good sign, since I saw the test and thought it was A. Very difficult, and B. entirely fair. So now, not only am I a burnt out teacher, apparently, I'm not a very effective one. We'll see how long I can convince the kids I don't have their grades. They felt good about the test. Who knows, after we scale it a million points, maybe we'll come out on top. (Still not comforting that they missed over 50% of the questions though)
